Damian Chrobak is a photographer whose documentary practice examines the subtle signs of everyday life in public spaces. Damian Chrobak's photography oscillates between seriousness and humor, with events in his images acting as independent street records, which shape an individual interpretation of different cultures and their symbols, encapsulated in seemingly simple but multilayered situations.
Since 2010, Damian Chrobak has been a member of the Polish Association of Visual Artists and the founder of the street photography collective Un-Posed. He studied at the Warsaw Academy of Photography, moved to London in 2004, and studied Photography at the University of the Arts London and at the Institute of Creative Photography in Opava, Czech Republic. Damian's work has been published in the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States, New Zealand, Poland, and other European countries.
Story Behind the Image: One afternoon in Soho Square, London, I noticed a young woman sitting on a bench, her shoes boldly proclaiming, “Punk Is Not Dead.” That striking message caught my eye. I asked her if I could take a photograph—and that small detail became the story of this shot: a fleeting statement of defiance and identity captured in a single frame.
Paper: This piece is printed on Canson Baryta, a premium, heavyweight (310gsm), pure white paper with a luster surface that mimics a darkroom print. This is an archival print designed to last 100+ years.
